On 14 September 1920, the Belarusian State Theatre started working in the building of the Minsk City Theatre. In 1944, it was named after the great Belarusian poet and playwright Janka Kupała. We had our share of trials and joyful moments during this turbulent century, and in 2020 we were preparing to celebrate our centenary. Yet things turned out differently: on 26 August we left the theatre in solidarity with the Belarusian nation that had taken to the streets in peaceful protests against the violence and lawlessness that had swept the country. We are a national theatre because we have been standing by our nation for all these years. Now we are the free Kupałaŭski Theatre. We have left our home, but we are sure we will come back to it. Our page is about our return, our long way back home.
