If you’ve logged out of Twitter against your will today, you’re not alone.
Around 3 pm ET on Monday (according to Down Detector(opens in a new tab)), legions of Twitter users began reporting that the site had forced them out of their accounts, with some users reporting that they were unable to log back in immediately. A cursory search for “logged out” revealed dozens of accounts, both large and small, reporting this issue. At the time of writing, the issue appears to be isolated to the Twitter web client, not the smartphone apps.

It actually happened to me while I was in the process of finding these tweets and writing this article. Fun!
Of course, that’s not the only problem Twitter has run into since Musk took over late last year—or heck, even since April. In recent weeks, we’ve seen a bug restoring lost verification marks from previously verified users, a fake Disney account verified by mistake, and an intentional decision to put verified replies at the top of every reply thread.
Okay, that last one isn’t technically a bug, but it is has it made the site much worse to read.
In any case, if you’re logging out of desktop Twitter, know that you’re not alone.

We at Ikaroa know how annoying it can be to log into Twitter for the millionth time today and find that you’ve been logged out yet again. If you have been experiencing this issue, we understand your frustration and want to help.
There are a few potential explanations for this issue. The most common one is that your session has expired – this typically happens after a few days of inactivity, meaning you haven’t accessed the platform. If this is the case, all you need to do is log back into your account.
Another potential issue is if you have multiple browsers or devices open at the same time. This is more likely to happen if you tend to switch devices or browsers frequently. Make sure your devices or browsers are all logged out before logging back in to your account on the preferred browser or device.
If neither of these potential causes is the issue, then you may have to look at other potential sources. One potential source could be any third-party website that you use to access Twitter. If you are using a third-party website, it is important to make sure that it is properly secured, as this could potentially be the source of the issue.
The security of your accounts is of the utmost importance. It is essential that you keep your account secure and monitor the third-party websites that you use to access it. Here at Ikaroa, we strive to provide our customers with extensive security features – such as two-factor authentication – to minimize risk.
