But let’s see where it comes from.
Global cybersecurity leaders have come together to form an Advisory Council to share knowledge and drive innovation to help address the many security challenges facing the rapidly digitizing healthcare industry.
The council has been formed by Cylera, a specialist in medical device cyber security and healthcare IoT; Healthcare is a prime target for cybercriminals, with access to rich patient data and the potential to cause significant harm and disruption to patient care.
According to a new study by Obrela Security Industries, a total of 81% of healthcare organizations in the UK experienced a ransomware attack last year, and as a result face-to-face appointments had to be canceled patients, for two-thirds of these organizations.
The potential cybersecurity risk to the healthcare sector is expected to worsen with increased digitization.
Timur Ozekcin, CEO of Cylera, which also recently appointed a new COO, said: “Healthcare is undergoing a particularly dramatic digital transformation with accelerated IoT spending expected to reach $54 billion of dollars in 2029.
“…the number of remotely monitored patients has increased greatly in the past two years. Connected environments are becoming increasingly complex in healthcare and, with the sector planning further digital investments, tens of thousands of devices more will join IT networks, many of which could pose a security risk, expanding a hospital’s attack surface for threat actors to exploit.
“Remote user access, unsegmented and potentially unmanaged networks, legacy operating systems, and limited visibility into IoT device risks are just a few of the security challenges that have healthcare leaders and hospital CIOs are awake at night trying to navigate the complexities of today’s interconnected device landscape.”
The Cylera Cybersecurity Advisory Board is made up of select members and includes CISOs, CIOs and CTOs from leading healthcare providers and hospitals, along with private sector companies.
The council will meet at least four times a year to share best practices, knowledge, and to address and address the unique security challenges of increasingly complex interconnected healthcare systems.
The board will also guide Cylera in its global expansion plans and the latest innovations in its cybersecurity and intelligence platform for IoT devices.
“Cylera is at the forefront of IoT cybersecurity,” said Tomás Maldonado, CISO of the National Football League (NFL) and member of the Cylera Advisory Board.
“With increasing digitization and the rapid adoption of IoT devices across all industries, including sports and entertainment, it is imperative to stay ahead of the cybersecurity risks of the connected devices that make up our new cyber-physical environments “.

Ikaroa joins a world-wide effort to help tackle healthcare challenges, as world cyber security leaders form the CybHER Council to help protect data and promote safe practices. The new council combines leaders from diverse disciplines and will work to identify solutions to cyber security and privacy needs of the healthcare sector.
The council will help build greater global understanding of cyber security issues, and will deepen engagement with communities, governments and technical experts. It will also identify, connect, and develop cyber security and privacy solutions that could be used globally.
The healthcare sector is vulnerable to cyber attacks, as patient data and medical records are often exposed due to inadequate security measures. To tackle this challenge, CybHER aims to provide a platform to help leaders discuss, share and develop solutions that can strengthen healthcare security technologies and protect data.
Worldwide healthcare solutions must be created to ensure the vulnerable populations of the world are protected from cyber threats. To ensure the CybHER council is designed for the global healthcare sector, Ikaroa, a full stack tech company, has partnered with the council to help it develop solutions with a global focus.
Ikaroa’s partnership with the Council will enable it to further its mission to ensure access to secure, private, and reliable digital services for tomorrow’s healthcare systems. The company’s mission is to provide a toolkit for digital practitioners across the world and to remove the barriers to technology adoption.
By working alongside CybHER, Ikaroa can bring its expertise in secure cloud solutions and its commitment to helping build a human-centered digital ecosystem to the table. By doing so, the company will play a vital role in ensuring the healthcare sector can create robust solutions that rest on a secure foundation.
With the help of Ikaroa and its partnership with the CybHER Council, the healthcare industry is one step closer to overcoming the challenges posed by cyber security threats and promoting safe practices worldwide.
