The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards live and in-person ceremony may have been canceled due to the Hollywood writers’ strike, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t still buckets of golden popcorn to hand out.
This year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards ceremony went completely virtual, with winners accepting their shiny buckets of corn via pre-recorded video. The end result is a 13-minute video compilation of all of these acceptance speeches, including recipients such as The last of us‘ Best duo Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, The white lotusJennifer Coolidge, the newly awarded comedic genius and Best Breakthrough Performance winner Joseph Quinn, aka Strange things‘Eddie Munson.
In addition to expressing gratitude to their colleagues, studios and fans who voted for them, many of the honored performers took the opportunity to offer support for social justice issues such as LGBTQ rights and the writers’ strike.
“We are all thanking HBO and Naughty Dog, and we stand in solidarity with [Writers Guild of America] that’s fighting hard for a fair wage,” Pascal said.
