
As brands incorporate generative AI into their creative workflows to generate new business-related content, they must be careful to ensure that new material adheres to brand style and guidelines of the company
Nova is an early-stage startup that builds a suite of generative AI tools designed to protect brand integrity, and today, the company is announcing two new products to help brands control AI-generated content: BrandGuard and BrandGPT.
With BrandGuard, you ingest your company’s brand guidelines and style guide, and with a series of templates that Nova has created, it can check content against those rules to make sure it complies, while BrandGPT lets you ask questions about brand content rules in ChatGPT Style
Rob May, the company’s founder and CEO, who previously founded Backupify, a cloud backup startup that was acquired by Datto in 2014, acknowledged that companies want to start leveraging generative AI technology to create content faster, but still worried about maintaining brand integrity, so he came up with the idea of building a guardrail system to protect the brand from generative AI mishaps.
“We heard from a number of CMOs who were concerned about ‘how do I know this AI-generated content is on brand?’ So we built this architecture that we’re rolling out called BrandGuard, which is a really interesting set of models, along with BrandGPT, which acts as an interface on top of the models,” May told TechCrunch.
BrandGuard is like the back end of this brand protection system. Nova built five models that look for things that might seem out of place. They do checks for brand safety, quality check, if it’s on-brand, if it sticks to the style, and if it’s on-campaign. It then assigns each piece a content score, and each company can decide what the threshold is for calling a human to check the content before publishing it.
“When you have generative AI to create things, now you can score them on a continuum. And then you can set thresholds, and if there’s anything below, say, the 85% mark, you can have the system flag that for a human to take a look at,” he said. Companies can decide the threshold they are comfortable with.
BrandGPT is designed to work with third parties like an agency or contractor, who can ask questions about the company’s branding guidelines to ensure they’re following them, May said. “We’re launching BrandGPT, which is intended to be the interface for all of these brand safety things that we’re doing, and as people interact with brands, they can access the style guides and understand the brand better, whether ” whether or not you are part of the company.
Both of these products are available in public beta starting today. The company launched last year and has raised $2.4 million from Bee Ventures, Fyrfly Ventures and Argon Ventures
