After a week off, Stephen Colbert wasted no time on Monday late show catching up on the headlines he had missed. And there was a big one who couldn’t wait to talk.
“We’ve been off the air for a week,” Colbert says in the clip above. “You know who else has it? Tucker Carlson. The difference is I’m allowed back.”
For the next five minutes, Colbert talks about everything from the mystery of Carlson’s abrupt firing from Fox News(opens in a new tab) (“You can read the whole thing at Nancy Drew and the Case of Why Didn’t This Happen Years Ago?”) to the revelation that he had called a Fox executive the C-word(opens in a new tab) (“For those who don’t know what word I’m talking about, he told his boss until next Tuesday, or in that case, see you ever, Tucker.”)
Colbert wraps things up by talking about what Carlson might do next, including reports of a job offer from Russia State Media(opens in a new tab). “This must be a tempting offer. So far, he has been representing Russia pro bono.”

On Wednesday evening, Stephen Colbert gave his viewers a taste of his masterful critiquing powers when he responded to the firing of Tucker Carlson from Fox News with 5 minutes of nonstop burns. Colbert, who is the host of the ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ on CBS, addressed the topic with comic brilliance by addressing Carlson’s controversial comments regarding the Black Lives Matter movement while accentuating his own comedic writing.
Colbert began his monologue by celebrating Fox News’ decision, saying that it “finally happened”, and asking whether the decision for Carlson’s firing was “an accident”, implying that it was long overdue. Using his signature dry humor, Colbert went on to list some of Carlson’s most controversial miscalculated comments, such as claiming that diversity makes society weaker, and his dismissal of coronavirus. He then went on to explain that Carlson’s firing had nothing to do with those comments, and that the reason for the firing was because Fox News found out that Carlson had been speaking to “people who might have been labeled white nationalists”.
